Here are some questions our customers often have about our services.
How do I choose the right roofing contractor?
Check them out and choose a company that is established and has been around for a long enough time like ProTec Roofing. Choose a roofing company that will give you a proper written estimate and past job references. Watch out for the lack of permanent address. If it appears to be just a phone number and no address, the company may not be from your area or the company could disappear.
Do you carry liability insurance and WCB coverage and are you licensed?
Yes, we have all the needed coverage’s and licenses to operate in St. Albert and Edmonton. We would be happy to show you the proper documentation. We are also members of the Better Business Bureau.
Do you have a workmanship warranty?
Yes, we offer a 5 year workmanship warranty, and the shingle manufacturer provides a warranty for the materials you choose. Both warranties are mailed to you after the job is completed.
Will all of the existing roofing material be removed?
Yes. The existing shingles are removed right down to the bare wood. Some homes have more than one existing layer of shingles. It is very rare that multiple layers of shingles are not detected before the estimate is prepared but, if during the job other layers are discovered, we will contact the home owner to discuss extra costs before proceeding. The price on the estimate assumes there is one layer of shingles unless otherwise noted.
What will you do if you find rotten roof decking?
Rotten roof decking will be replaced as needed and every effort is made to notify the homeowner of this as extra charges are applied. Usually, rotten decking is found at the edges of the roof, right above the eaves trough.
How do I choose a colour?
You are welcome to come to our office showroom and examine large colour samples and speak with our staff. We can also provide you with a number of addresses in your area that have been re-roofed with the exact shingle and colour you are interested in.
How are the shingles delivered?
On the majority of jobs, where access is not a problem, materials will be delivered and hoisted directly on your roof by a special truck. The bundles are loaded all along your roof pitch and the weight does not present a problem for your house.
Will I know exactly when the crew is scheduled to arrive?
We contact the homeowner and try to give at least a day’s notice for when the shingles will arrive and when your home will be completed by our company. Weather always plays a factor and a forecast of rain or strong winds could delay a job.
How long does it take to have a roof done?
Typically, the crew is done by the end of the second day or sooner. However, there is no such thing as an average roof and clearly it depends on the size of the roof, weather and the access to the jobsite.
What happens if it rains while you’re installing my roof?
Our experienced crews always watch for weather and always tear off only as much roof as they can safely re-shingle in the same day. If by chance it rains and the roof isn’t shingled, the roof will be papered and tarped completely.
Do I need to be home while you replace the roof?
No, it is not necessary to be home while the work is being done. It is best to keep the driveway clear as our crews need to back their dump trucks up as close to the house as possible. The replacement of a roof is often very noisy and some customers prefer to be gone and/or kennel their pets.
Will you be doing anything that may cause damage to my yard or driveway?
We are careful of anything and everything around the house. It is best to move or tarp any close plants to ProTect them and any objects outside the house close to the walls should be moved away.
Will the job be inspected by you on completion?
Yes, every job done by ProTec Roofing Services is inspected. After the inspection has been passed, payment will be accepted.
What methods of payment can I give?
We accept payment by cheque, cash, bank draft and/or money order. Payment is made upon completion of roof.
